Buel Scholars
Building young people toward a hope-filled future in Allegany County and beyond.
Summer Program Dates
June 22, 2026 – July 24, 2026
The Buel Scholars High School Enrichment Program serves high school-aged students in Allegany County through experiential learning that equips them with the skills needed for success in life, school, and the workplace. Emphasizing personal excellence, the program combines learning and service to the larger community, and integrates the participants into that community as essential,
contributing members.
Students selected for the program receive a stipend to participate in an engaging and fun five-week summer program. Professional educators employ a targeted curriculum to teach leadership, communication skills, service, community engagement, and financial literacy, all in an effort to motivate future academic and professional success. Through age-appropriate experiences, scholars become part of the process of building a hopeful future in Allegany County and beyond.
During the school year, scholars meet quarterly to participate in wide-ranging additional activities for their personal growth, exposing them to new ideas and expanding their social and professional networks.
Buel Scholars at Summer Camp
Every summer, Buel Scholars spend a week at the Claggett Center on the beautiful banks of the Monacacy River in historic Adamstown, Maryland.
The Claggett Center offers scholars fun-filled traditional summer camp experience in a tranquil and safe setting. There, they forge lasting bonds with their peers and instructors and develop confidence and essential life skills.
Whether zip lining, kayaking, navigating the ropes course, or cooling off in the pool, Claggett gives the scholars the chance to get away from the routine and just have fun! While there are plenty of classic camp activities like campfires, karaoke and skits, there’s also time to explore nature and engage in sporting activities like softball, volleyball, or basketball.
