Please read through ALL of the instructions and information prior to starting your application.

  1. The application must be completed in full prior to final submission. The system will not accept incomplete applications. This application is for NEW prospective scholars only.
  2. There is a “Save & Resume Later” option as you progress through the application. If you are unable to complete the application at any point, simply save your progress and exit. When you are ready to resume completing the application, you will be taken back to your last save point when you re-access the application. An email will be sent to you with a link to re-access your application after you have saved and exited. PLEASE NOTE: Do not upload any forms, letters of recommendation or sign forms when using “Save & Resume Later.” Uploaded material will NOT be saved to the form until the form is ready for FINAL SUBMISSION. Users should not upload files or sign the forms until they are ready to submit.
  3. All information submitted in your application is held in the strictest confidence.
  4. The required 500-word essay and letters of recommendation must be uploaded during the application process, but NO documents should be uploaded until you are ready to submit the entire application. Using the “Save & Resume Later” function on this application does not save uploads.
  5. You will need to submit a 500-word essay and 1-2 letters of recommendation.
    • For the essay, please answer these three questions:
      • Select two (2) skills you think are important to be successful. How will these skills make you successful in high school and beyond?
      • Think of a time when you disagreed with someone. Explain if and how you resolved the disagreement. What if the situation happens again? Would you handle this situation differently?
      • After reading the material about our Buel Scholars High School Enrichment Program, what are the two important things you hope to learn from your five-week experience with The Buel Scholars Enrichment Program? Why are these skills important to being successful?
    • It is important that you proofread your essay. It can be very helpful if you give your essay to an adult to help you craft the best essay you can. A compelling essay is crucial to acceptance to Buel Scholars.
    • You can also type your essay directly into the application if this is easiest for you.
    • While essays can be typed into the application, recommendation letters must be uploaded. All recommendation letters must be signed by the individual providing the recommendation.
  6. **NOTE: Some questions in this application may seem insensitive or intrusive and personal. The Buel Scholars program is the recipient of many sources of grants and as such, we are required to maintain certain information on all types of demographics, to include economic and sociological information. Your personal information is NEVER shared. We only use information for requested statistics, reporting to our granting organizations. We could not operate the Buel Scholars program without these funding opportunities, so we thank you for your participation.
